Charles L. Pearce, 75, of Little Rock, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. He was a United States Army Veteran, retired from the Lions World Services for the Blind and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Born July 30, 1932 in Austin, Arkansas to Tresia Nuckolls Pearce and Othello Leonard Pearce, he was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Nolting Pearce; son, James Leonard Pearce (Phyllis); daughter, Sharon Dudderar (Louis); and three grandchildren, Lauren Dudderar, Sarah Pearce and Gordon Dudderar.
Charles graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1950. While attending Little Rock Junior College, he was a member of Sigma Tau Alpha Fraternity. After graduating, he served from 1954-1956 in the U. S. Army, stationed at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. Upon receiving his B.S.B.A. degree in economics and accounting from UALR in 1959, he was the recipient of the Wall Street Journal Silver Plaque and Outstanding Graduate in Business Administration. He continued at UALR as accountant and assistant to the Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Fiscal Affairs. Charles was a charter member of the National Association of Accountants and served on the Board of Directors. He was a charter member of the American Association of Workers for the Blind, serving as secretary-treasurer and bulletin editor. He served Park Plaza Lions Club as secretary-treasurer, bulletin editor, vice-president, president, and regional-state office zone chairman, receiving special commendation for fund-raising projects. Charles was vice-president and general manager of Cantrell Gardens for 15 years, serving in both the Arkansas Nurserymen's Association and the American Nurserymen's Association. Until retirement in 1999, he was Business Administrator for Lions World Services for the Blind.
There will be visitation on Friday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Ann Harrison, Rev. Richard Hughes and Rev. James Vincent. Burial will follow in Old Austin Cemetery at Ward, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice or the Parkinson Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032-9982.
