Charles Nickels, age 77, of Arkadelphia, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at his home. He was born in Arkadelphia on February 27, 1939 to the late Walter and Estelle Nickels. He was a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Rita; two sons, Walt of Little Rock, AR. and Eric of Warren, AR.; a sister , Carolyn McAnally of Arkadelphia; a brother-in-law, Keith Rinehart (JoAnne) of Hot Springs Village; a sister-in-law, Margie Davis; several nieces and nephews and his great horseback riding buddy, John Cummings. He was preceded in death by two brother-in-laws, Johnny McAnally and Phil Davis.

Charles graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1956, served in the U. S, Army in Germany, was a registered land surveyor and retired from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers after thirty-seven years of service.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, being outdoors and was passionate about horseback riding. He was also an avid Razorback fan.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 17th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family expresses special thanks to the staff of the Multiple Myeloma Institute at UAMS and to the staff at Arkansas Hematology/Oncology in Little Rock. They also urge the donation of blood and blood products.
