Charles Edward Ligon, Age 84, of Oppelo and Arkadelphia, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, April 21, 2024 in Arkadelphia. He was born on October 17, 1939 in Arkadelphia, the sone of the late P.W. Ligon, Sr. and LaVern Bloomfield Ligon.
Charles attended Arkadelphia High School before entering the U.S. Navy and serving on the aircraft carrier USS Midway. During his working years, he was an electrician with Reynolds Metal Company in Gum Springs, and Green Bay Packaging in Morrilton. Charles attended First Baptist Church of Morrilton.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, Ed and Laura Bloomfield, and his wife, Bess Dixon Ligon.
He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Mary Francis Ligon; one son, David (Pam) Ligon of Arkadelphia; one daughter, Rhonda (Roger) Holder of Hot Springs; three grandchildren, Alicia (Justin) Ledbetter of Bentonville, Chris (Rachel) Holder of Hot Springs, Laura Holder of Hot Springs; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Emma Ledbetter of Bentonville, Bella Gomez and Kali Holder of Hot Springs, Lyric Holder of Oklahoma; 2 brothers, P.W. “Woody” Ligon, Jr. of Camden, Jack Ligon of Grand Prairie, Texas; 2 sisters, Dawne Underwood of Texarkana, Arkansas, Bobbie Brown of Muskegan, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Ruggles Wilcox Chapel in Smith Family Funeral Home of Arkadelphia with Baptist Hospice Chaplain Marilyn Reed officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at Hart’s Chapel Cemetery in Curtis, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers are David Ligon, Woody Ligon, Roger Holder, Jaxon Ledbetter, Justin Ledbetter, and Chris Holder.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
The family sends a special thank you to Charles’ in-home caregivers, Baptist Home Health, Baptist Health Hospice, Dr. Robert Dorman and Staff, and the Clark County emergency response volunteers for their help, care, and concern during the past months.
