Charles Koon

Charles Pinckney Koon, Jr., 92, of North Little Rock passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 in Hot Springs. He was born on November 6, 1915 to Charles Pinckney Koon, Sr. and Helon Edmonds Koon in Little Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Emma Mae Koon; and a sister, Ruth Virginia Koon. He leaves behind his sister, Arlene Dew; son, Bill Koon and wife Valentina of Potosi, Missouri; son, Steve Koon and wife Martha of Hot Springs; and five grandchildren.
After serving on the USS Chester during World War II in the Pacific he and Emma Mae settled down in Sherwood. There he worked for thirty years at Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad as a radio maintainer. Charles was a long time member of the Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Sylvan Hills Lodge #754 of Free and Accepted Masons. He was proud to be a member of the Twin City Memorial VFW Post #2935. His Ham Radio friends knew him as ?Coon Dog?.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lakewood Convalescent Home in Hot Springs, Homecare Hospice of Hot Springs and for the many prayers from his friends.

A graveside service officiated by Rev. Jim Rowland will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jonathan Koon, Jason Koon, and Oleg Koren; friends, David Jones, James Hooten and Gary Harris. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
