Charles “Chuck” Kinkel died peacefully at the John McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock on April 5, 2023. He was 90 years old. Charles, fondly known as Chuck, was born July 13, 1932, in San Diego, CA to the late Homer and Myrtle (Carlson) Kinkel.
After graduating from Herbert Hoover High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for over 20 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1975. During his Air Force career, he earned numerous decorations for meritorious service and was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during the Vietnam War. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1974 and his Master of Science from the University of Arkansas in 1977. After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for the State of Arkansas Industrial Commission. Chuck was an active member of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock. He enjoyed photography, bird watching and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Jenene of Little Rock; three daughters, Natalie Kinkel of Houston, TX; Marianne Kinkel (Michael Yount) of Pullman, WA; Jill Kinkel of Houston, TX; and a son, Jeff Kinkel (Lee) of Signal Mountain, TN; as well as two stepsons, William Singleton of North Little Rock; Jeffrey Singleton (Sharon Sheehan) of Evanston, IL and a daughter-in-law, Laura Singleton of Little Rock. Chuck had several grandchildren including: Jessica Patterson (Wright); Kathleen Shaw (Andrew); Jessica Goff (Sean); Emily Finan (Ryan Smith); Aly Singleton; Mia Singleton; and Benjamin Kinkel. He also had six great-grandchildren: Knox and Corinne Patterson, Wyatt Shaw, Brody, Lea, and Sloan Goff. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Mark Singleton.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 8:30 am at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct, Little Rock followed by a funeral service at 9:30 am.
A military honored burial will follow at 11:00 am at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave, North Little Rock.
