Charles Wesley Jones of Little Rock, formerly of Mayflower, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 8, 2012, just three days after his 87th birthday. Charley, as he was affectionately known, was born in Lone Oak, Texas to Lonnie L. and Nettie G. Slimmons Jones. He was a WWII Naval veteran who served on an "LT" in the South Pacific and during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jewel Mullins, two baby sons, his wife, Frances, and his very dear companion, Christine Booth. Charley is survived by his sons, Charles Jones, Jr. of Little Rock and Kenneth Jones (Mike Self) of Benton; two granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, one great-great-grandson; and his beloved and devoted Poodle, Mimi. Charley will also be missed by his many, many friends at the Good Shepherd Retirement Community.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Graveside Service with Military Honors will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, officiated by Rev. Pete Weber.
