Charles Johnston

Charles Lewis (Lew) Johnston passed away February 23, 2015 at St. Vincent Infirmary. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William C. and Janet Johnston who have preceded him in death along with his sister, Maury Muench and his wife of 38 years, Doris Munden Johnston.

Lew graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Biology. He worked for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Department of Human Services. He loved camping and deer hunting with his friends who always had a great time. They also liked to hike through the woods, but seldom saw a deer.

Lew was an avid Bridge player and loved to play at the Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club. He was a much loved member of the club and was always a gentleman. He found chairs for people with special needs, escorted them to their cars and opened doors for them. He was a valued partner and a worthy opponent, attaining the level of Bronze Life Master.

Lew is survived by his loving significant other, Margaret Mathews; stepdaughters, Donna Williams of Hot Springs Village and Susan Allen of Princeton, New Jersey; stepson, Bill Munden of El Dorado, Arkansas; niece, Haven Clancy (Mike) of Bethesda, Maryland; and nephews, Paul Muench (Bridget Clarke) of Missoula, Montana and Eric McEuen (Joy) of Cave Junction, Oregon.

Lew loved animals and his two cats, Halley and L.C. "Lap cat," will miss him greatly. Margaret's pets loved him dearly, as did her human family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carti of Little Rock AR, 9500 Kanis Rd., Suite 150, Little Rock, AR 72205 or Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club, 7415 Indiana Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207.
