Charles G. McNeil, age 74, of Amity, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 12, 2012. He was born on April 3, 1937, at Joaquin, Texas, the son of Henry Clay McNeil and Aline Renfro McNeil. He was married to Betty Lou Adams on March 10, 1962. He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Ceal Shofner; his brother, Terry Shofner; his niece, Patricia McNeil; and his great-nephew, Zach Wilhite. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Okinawa. From 1961 to 1966, he worked for Geo Tech, traveling all over the country doing seismology recording underground nuclear explosions; he also worked for Braniff at Love Field, Parkland Hospital, and in 2001 retired from Dalfort, Love Field in Dallas, Texas. In 2003, he and Betty relocated to Arkansas. Charles enjoyed gardening and shared the fruits of his labor with whomever would come and pick it. He never met a stranger and was very proud of his children and grandchildren and the accomplishments they have achieved. He is survived by his wife, Betty McNeil of Amity; his daughter, Cindy McNeil of Amity; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lisa McNeil of Sachse, Texas; two grandchildren, Kristen McNeil and her fiance', Javier Cazares and Kelly McNeil, all of Sachse, Texas; his mother, Aline Renfro McNeil Shofner of Marshall, Texas; two sisters, Susie Dowden of Marshall, Texas and Patsy Smith and her husband, Bill, of Lake Dallas, Texas; three brothers, James McNeil and his wife, Susan, of Marshall, Texas, Bobby Shofner and his wife, Susan, of Haughton, Louisiana, and Ricky Shofner and his wife, Denise, of Shreveport, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Wanda Shofner of Shreveport, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 15, 2012, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Kevin Smead officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Caney Valley Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caney Valley Cemetery Association, c/o Lois Burnett, 1244 Hwy. 84 East, Amity, Arkansas, 71921. Pallbearers will be Marc McNeil, Russ Hill, Jimmy Garrett, Damon McNeil, Burt Dieverson, James Clyde Bardwell, Roy Rogers and Richard Earl Rodgers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Head, and all of his daily morning coffee drinking buddies at Trudy's Cafe in Amity and his daily afternoon tea drinking buddies at the Lux Cafe in Glenwood.
