Charles Leon Black, age 76, of Black Springs, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022.
He was born on July 19, 1946, in Black Springs, the son of James Bolty Black and Ada Lee Spradling Black. On June 21, 1969, he married the true love of his life, Linda Sue Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Melvin Black, Thurman Black, Truman Black, Marvin Black, Nona Lee Love and Marlin Black.
He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Korea during the Vietnam War, and was a member of Murphy Baptist Church. For most of his life, even when he was a young boy, Charles worked as a logger and in his later years he became a rancher. He had a great passion for dirt track racing, even owning his own racecar, #101, and for many years would love to go racing any chance he would get. But above all, he dearly loved his family and spending time with them. Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Black of Black Springs; his children and their spouses, Christy and Neal Price of Hopper, Chastity and Don Scifres of Maumelle and Matt Black of Black Springs; his five grandchildren and their spouses, Anthoney and Courtney Price, Lauren and Aaron Hollingshead, Tyler and Kristyn Price, Cole Scifres and Layne Black; his five great-grandchildren, Anna, Noah, Hazel, Naomi and Emma; his brother, Austin Black of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sister, Lois Ann Burnett of Amity; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 12, 2022, in the Murphy Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Lock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gaston Cemetery Fund or to Murphy Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood.
