Cecil Marie Young, known fondly as Marie, was born on September 23, 1935, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. She departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by family on March 21, 2025. Marie was a remarkable individual whose legacy is one of love, dedication, and adventure.
Marie devoted many years of her life to a fulfilling career in clerical work at Township Builders Company, where her organizational skills and warm demeanor made her a cherished colleague. In partnership with her dear friend Kathy Churchill, she also operated a painting company, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.
Throughout her life, Marie was a selfless individual, always concerned about the well-being of others. This caring nature extended to her family, whom she loved dearly. One would say she had a heart bigger than the galaxy. Marie shared a profound bond with her best friend and husband, Floyd "Flip" Young, with whom she spent 70 beautiful years. Together, they created a loving family that included their son, Michael Young (Andrea), as well as their daughter, Michelle Butler (Scott).
Marie was especially proud of her grandchildren—Stevie McCauley (Terry), Paige Evans, and Taylor Costik (Jaclyn). They brought her immense joy, as did her great-grandchildren, Parker and Peyton, who were undoubtedly the light of her later years.
A passionate traveler, Marie found joy riding over 500,000 miles on her beloved Harley Davidson. Her adventurous spirit also drew her to the beach, where she cherished moments spent in the sun and surf. Additionally, she found happiness and fulfillment in the kitchen, cooking for her family and spending treasured hours in the grocery store with her son Mike, further highlighting the close-knit family bonds she nurtured.
As we remember Marie, we honor her selfless spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and the joyful memories she created with those around her. She is survived by her loving husband Flip, her children: Michael and Michelle, her cherished grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Her profound impact on their lives will forever be felt.
Marie was met at the pearly gates by her parents, Fredrick and Cyntitha Phillips; her brother, Howard Phillips; as well as her sisters: Ethel Risner, Gladys Powell, and Minnie Bell Risner. Each of them shaped her life in immeasurable ways and are surely welcoming her with open arms.
The world is quieter without Marie, whose laughter, love, and life will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Little Rock Funeral Home.
