Carmeleta "Carmel" Miles

September 30, 1933 — February 25, 2022

Carmeleta “Carmel” Miles, age 88, of Glenwood, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022.

She was born on September 30. 1933, in Bonnerdale, the daughter of Obert Wright and Eula Pennington Wright. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Odean Duggan, on November 8, 1966; her second husband, Henry Miles, on June 8, 2007; four children, Shelley Crain, Serenda Jordan, Leland Miles and Sandra Duggan; two grandchildren, Deandra Crain and Jebadiah Crain; and two sisters, Billie Egleston and Bennie Weatherford.

Before her health declined, Carmel was an active member of the Glenwood First Baptist Church. She worked in the AWANA program and loved her church family. In earlier years, she and Odean owned and operated the Dog House and Glenwood Roller Rink. Taking a twist on the corn dog, Carmel came up with the Dippy Cheese. Using a special batter and cooling the cheese, the results were a hit with all of the area kids. In later years, Carmel went back to school to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked first for the Glenwood Nursing Home and later retired from St. Josephs Mercy Health Center. After retirement, she and Henry enjoyed traveling together. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Glenwood Chapter #396.

She is survived by three children, Kelley Duggan, Deanice Dollar and Gaylon Miles, all of Glenwood; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Shields of Cabot; her brother, Ricky Wright of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
