Carl Denver Plyler

Carl Denver Plyler, age 92, of Glenwood, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019. He was born on January 4, 1927, in Salem, Arkansas, the son of Harvey Clark Plyler and Nettie Caroline Elder Plyler. On January 28, 1955, he was married to Mary Louise Griffis. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Alf Plyler, Pete Plyler, Hurley Plyler and John Plyler; and two sisters, Lola Machen and Edith Sunderland. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, was a member of the Glenwood First United Methodist Church and owned and operated for over 34 years, Carls Supply. He will be fondly remembered for his dry, funny sense of humor, enjoyed his time with Mary going to the fitness center and especially loved his morning coffee visits socializing with his many friends. Carl was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who dearly loved his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Plyler of Glenwood, his daughter, Gail Patterson of Texarkana, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Carl Stephen and Julie Plyler of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Amanda Patterson, Kaleb Patterson, Emily Tapley and her husband, Bryan, and Stephen Plyler; one great-grandson, Tristan Tapley; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 23, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Joe Ray Short officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his beloved nephews, Harvey Plyler, John Wayne Plyler, Danny Plyler, Jerry Sunderland, Billy Plyler, Hurley Plyler, Johnny Plyler, Mark Sunderland and Chip Moore.
