Calvin D. Squires, 82 of North Little Rock, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 30, 2010. He was born December 28, 1927, to Gee Squires and Birdie Toland Squires of Hensley, Arkansas.
Calvin was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy. His love of learning encouraged him to hold a full-time job to support his family while he obtained a bachelor's degree at Ouachita Baptist University. His love for the Lord led him to become an ordained minister. He continued his education by pursuing a Master's degree. He was a full-time pastor and worked in the construction industry while teaching in Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Cabot public schools. In 1975, he founded Spurgeon Memorial Christian School, where he served as principal, pastor, and teacher. After his time at the school, he continued working in the construction industry until 2004. Calvin's faith in God and love for people influenced many lives. His kindness and generosity is remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and seven of his siblings, his former wife Vivian Squires, daughter Janis Parker and son Joel Squires. Calvin is survived by his loving wife, Elise Dickey Squires; their daughter, Jessica Ebert (Joshua) of Lakewood, Washington; his sons, Mark (Linda), Burt (Christine), Calvin (Susan) and Tim, all of Little Rock; 14 dearly loved grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, E.A. Squires of Greenbrier and a sister, Doris Bingham of Little Rock; and a host of treasured nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of All American Care for the care given Calvin over the past 8 months. The family is especially grateful to the Baptist Hospital nursing staff (7B) for the compassionate care provided for Calvin and his family in his final days.
