Gary Mac "Butch" McCallum, age 60, retired general contractor and devoted husband and father, died at his home on Thursday, December 3, 2009 following a battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease which he fought with grace and courage.
He was born August 6, 1949 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to the late Wriley and Arlivia McCallum. He attended Arkadelphia High School where he was an accomplished sprinter in track and field having set a state record in the 100 yard dash. He attended Ouachita Baptist University, afterwards, he became a master electrician and owner and operator of his own construction company. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He attended Arkadelphia Church of Christ on Pine Street.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 40 years, Angie, two sons and their wives, Dr. Gary and Dr. Jennifer McCallum and Michael and Allison McCallum, grandchildren, of whom he was so proud, Mae Elizabeth, Cole Wriley, Conner William, and Logan Butch, three brothers, Jack McCallum, Vance Wilson, and Burt Wilson, one sister Judy Fisher, and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family that he loved.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with Pastors Randy Hughes and Ardie Brown officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
