Burle Haggard

Burle Wade Haggard was born May 12, 1939 to Polk and Myrtle Haggard, in Glenwood, Arkansas. His parents, one brother (Floyd Haggard), and four sisters (Fureen Lerch, Valree Motley, Camilla Jones, Robbie Miller) preceded him in death. Numerous nieces and nephews whom he referred to as his children survive him.

Burle was a Methodist in faith and enjoyed religious activities.  He attended Glenwood Public Schools, Henderson State Teachers College, University of California Sacramento and other educational institutions in pursuit of his graduate degree. He was ecstatic about being a teacher, he taught public education in Virginia, California, Texas, and Arkansas.  He served in the Navy and considered himself a great patriot.

He had fond memories of his 1957 high school class, all his family members, fraternity brothers Phi Sigma Epsilon, and good friends that he had from all over the world. He enjoyed traveling, the Arkansas Razorbacks, Duke Men’s basketball, and music, especially the band The Eagles.

He appreciated his immediate family for all they have done during his time on earth.  He was especially fond of the food prepared fresh from the garden, by all his family members.

Keep Smiling and Laugh a lot was his motto.

The family invites all who wish to join them in celebrating Burle’s life to a memorial service planned for 2 PM Saturday November 16th at the United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Arkansas.  The family will be at the church by 1 pm to visit with those who wish to stop by early and share a fond memory or story.
