Bro. Boyd D. Kersey, age 81, of Glenwood, died Thursday, November 13, 2014. He was born on August 14, 1933 at Kirby, the son of Carl Clifton Kersey and Lida V. Coffman Kersey. On August 19, 1951, he was married to Dorotha Duren Kersey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cathie Kersey; three brothers, Curtis Kersey, Carl Kersey, Jr. and M. C. Kersey; two sisters, Monravia Henson and Coy Freeda "Tiny" Bell. Bro. Boyd was a carpenter by trade and was ordained as a Missionary Baptist preacher at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church on November 9, 1958. During those 56 years, he pastored multiple churches in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He was a graduate of Texas Baptist Institute Seminary with a degree in Bible languages. After retirement, Bro. Boyd and Dorotha returned to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where they have been faithful members. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in his flowers. He is survived by his wife, Dorotha Kersey of Glenwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Patricia Kersey of Irving, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Wayne Tuggle of Glen Rose; three grandchildren, Ryan Kersey and Natalie Wisdom of Irving, Texas and Kevin and Bridgett Kersey of Huntsville, Alabama; two great-granddaughters, Isabella Wisdom and Aeris Kersey; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, J. D. Kersey, Kirby and Marie Kersey, Billy and Mary Kersey and Harold and Martha Kersey, all of Kirby; one sister and brother-in-law, Quilla and Joe White of Big Sandy, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 16, 2014, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro Bobby Golden and Bro. Joe White officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at the church. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
