Brenda Joyce Oliver Steele passed away at her home in Cabot, Arkansas on October 24, 2022.
She was born November 22, 1950 to John William Oliver and Cornelia Lawson and grew up along with her two siblings in the historic oil boom town of Smackover, Arkansas. She was a proud Buckaroo and a member of the Smackover High School graduating class of 1968. After graduation she began working at Smackover State Bank later transferring to Arkansas Bank and Trust in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
After her marriage to Edward Roy Steele in 1972 she and Eddie made North Little Rock their home and she began employment with the Arkansas Department of Education in the student loan division. While living in North Little Rock she and Eddie welcomed into their family a daughter born in 1976 and another in 1982.
Brenda was artistic. She enjoyed tole painting when it became popular in the 1970s…..in fact she enjoyed it so much that for a while there was rarely a piece of wood or flea market find that did not end up sporting her acrylic strokes. She created beautiful needlepoint and had a particular flair for home decorating. Her life long love of the Beatles never faded but her greatest passion was for animals. During her lifetime she managed to adopt many of those four legged friends including one very special fur baby named Buddha and the giant but lovable family dog named Inky.
Brenda was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Emily Marie. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Jennifer Anne Steele of Cabot, Arkansas, a brother, John Malvin Oliver (Candis) of Hot Springs, a sister, Loretta Oliver Bacon (Bill) of Hot Springs, four nieces, Laura Buth and Sara Gordon of Hot Springs, Susan Pusser of Benton and Cheryl Kelley of Conway, 11 great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.
At Brenda’s request there will be no service but she will be interred in the mausoleum at Rest Hills (section 29) in North Little Rock with other family members.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a random act of kindness done in her memory or a contribution to a favorite charity.
