Boyd Reed

Boyd G. Reed (Shorty) of Mountain Home, Arkansas, was born in Carlisle, Arkansas, to Otis and Mittie Lou Reed on November 28, 1918. He passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Norene Hollis and Oleta Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 77 ½ years, Gladys Scruggs Reed; his son Eddie Reed and wife Judy of Highland, Arkansas; his daughter Linda Wright of Shelby, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Chris Reed and wife Katie Lynn of Forsythe, Missouri, Shawn Reed and Kristal Anderson of Mountain Home, Marc Reed of Mountain Home, Heather Robbins and husband Steven of Shelby, North Carolina, David Wright of Anderson, South Carolina, Philip Wright of Shelby, North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren; and a niece, Sidney Ann Roten of Melbourne, Arkansas.

Boyd worked 38 years for Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad. He played golf until the age of 90, and loved to fish and camp with family and friends, especially the grandchildren. He fixed everything at home, such as cars, lawnmowers and everything around the house, and did the same for friends and the church.

Boyd and Gladys were working members of the First Baptist Church wherever they lived. They also traveled Arkansas and the USA.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Ozarks and Eastside Baptist Church of Mountain Home for their care and attention.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Drive, Beebe, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.
