Boyce Owen Mathis, 83, of Benton, Arkansas, went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus on March 17, 2025. Born on May 31,1941 in Macks, Jackson County, Arkansas, Boyce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, businessman, and friend.
He was the proud owner of Mathis Tire Company in Little Rock, where he served the community with dedication for many years. He began working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in the 1960’s and built his career in the automotive industry from there. His strong work ethic for which he was known, though, began in early childhood in cotton fields and working as a migrant fruit laborer alongside his parents and siblings. Even after retirement, Boyce continued to stay active, working part time at O’Reilly Auto Parts, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and co-workers, whom he was known to entertain with his stories and random songs.
Boyce was a longtime member of Little Rock Church, where he grew and perfected his faith which was the primary focus of his life. He loved his church family dearly and found great joy in worshiping and sharing fellowship with them every chance he got. If the doors were open, you can bet Boyce was there!
Above all, Boyce cherished his blended family. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Mathis; his five daughters: Melanie Miller (Ron) and their children, Nathaniel, Karissa, and Caleb; Bekki Haley (Warren) and their children, Chad and Kayla; Vicki Doyle (Gerald) and their sons, Ryan, Jacob, and Andrew; Kathy Grubbs and her daughter, Lauren; and Tracy Williams (Scott) and their daughters, Lindsey, Marybeth, Hope, Rachel, and Anna Claire; Brother, Rickey Mathis. He was also a proud and adoring grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren.
Boyce was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann Jones Mathis; his parents, Woodrow and Mildred Mathis; his brother, Ron Mathis; and his sister, Nelda King.
Anyone who knew Boyce knew he always had a story to tell. His warmth, humor, and knack for spinning a tale made every conversation memorable. His kindness, generosity, and strong work ethic made a lasting impact on those who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication to his Lord, family, and community will not be forgotten.
A service to recognize and honor Boyce’s life will be held at Little Rock Church, 10701 Baseline Rd, Little Rock, Arkansas on Friday, March 21, beginning with visitation at 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Arrangements entrusted to Smith Little Rock Funeral Home.
