Bobby Squires Sr., a gentle man with a constant and unconditional love for family, passed away at his North Little Rock home on December 10, 2022 more than two years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Squires, 90, is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kay Rutherford Squires; their son, Bobby Jr, and wife Robbin Squires; grandchildren Keith Squires, Tiffany Squires Mraz, Kayla Squires great-grandson Wryatt, and more than 20 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Flossie Squires, and five younger siblings, Jim, Joe Ray, Dorothy Mills, Ernie Nugent, and Cybil Bowden.
Bob, who grew up in Southwest Little Rock, served in The Air Force for two years and worked for The Arkansas Gazette and McKesson Robbins before retiring in 1994.
As his Parkinson’s worsened and he was confined to home, Bob spent much of his day watching reruns of old westerns such as “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza” or laughing at something Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife did on the “Andy Griffith Show.” An avid baseball fan, he loved games on TV, particularly those of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. He teared up earlier this year when he received an SEC baseball signed by Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn.
“If everyone could find happiness in the simple things the way Uncle Bob did, the world would be a better place,” said a nephew.
The family also extended a sincere thank you to Ronnie Colclasure for his help with the care of Bob, who referred to Colclasure as his “second son.”
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. The graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December16, 2022 at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Services entrusted to Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., North LIttle Rock, AR 72114 501-758-1170.
