Bobby Hugh Wayne Russell, 75, of Conway, Arkansas, passed away from cancer on September 9, 2023. He was born on September 26, 1947, in Fordyce, Arkansas. For those who knew him, they had the privilege of knowing an incredibly kind and selfless man, one who always put others' needs ahead of his own.
Bobby's career was filled with dedication and quiet achievement. After managing shoe stores for almost 10 years, he found his calling at Skippy Foods in Little Rock. He worked diligently and earned numerous accolades throughout his career. One of his proudest moments was receiving an award for 25 years of service without a single absence. Bobby's commitment and work ethic were truly exceptional.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bobby was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jackie (Freeman) Russell. He was a cherished father to his son and daughter-in-law, E. Brian and Shelley Russell of Conway, AR, and his daughter and son-in-law, April (Russell) and Ben Wulff of Fayetteville, AR. He and Jackie sacrificed much to educate their children and give them opportunities they never had. For that and so many more reasons, Brian and April are eternally grateful. Bobby adored his grandchildren, Zoe (20), Sam (17), Jack (15), and Annabel (12), who brought him immense joy and pride. He will forever be Poppy to them.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Addie Russell, as well as two sisters and three brothers. He is also survived by a sister, Ginger Kludt.
Outside of his professional and familial roles, Bobby was a dedicated member of Conwayâs Calvary Baptist Church. He also had a range of hobbies and interests. Besides being a life-long Razorbacks fan, he was an avid car enthusiast (he gave up his â63 Corvette when his son came along, a questionable trade for sure), a long-time runner, and enjoyed participating in multiple sports as a Redbug. He also lived his faith â he was known for stopping on the highways to help motorists in distress and for once driving in a rare Arkansas snowstorm to retrieve stranded family members of neighbors he didnât even know. One of the defining moments of his and Jackieâs lives was the flood of 1978 in which they lost everything but refused to fold. This event serves to inspire his children to this day.
For those who played a role in his care including his physicians, nurses, aides, and hospice caregivers, his family is most appreciative. Visitation will take place at 10:00 am at Griffin-Leggett Conway Funeral Home on September 12, 2023. Bobby's life will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 directly following visitation. Friends and loved ones will gather to honor this amazingly patient and dedicated father and grandfather, this beautiful Poppy, whose commitment to his family knew no bounds.
