Billie Carpenter

Billie L. Carpenter, 86 of Beebe, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. Bill was born in York Township, Indiana on March 21, 1927 to Purnell and Mildred Carpenter.

He was united in marriage with the love of his life, Gladys, in 1947 following service in World War II. To this union three children were born as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

He resided in Angola, Indiana until 1959 when they moved to Beebe, Arkansas. He retired from the Great Plains Bag Company in 1997 and spent many wonderful years camping with Gladys.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Gladys, a son, Todd Carpenter, son-in-law Henry Scales and brother-in-law, Kenneth Maugherman.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Scales of Beebe; son Jon Tracy Carpenter (Jody) of Murray, Kentucky; daughter-in-law Cindy Carpenter of Little Rock; grandchildren Nathan Scales (Beth) of Cabot, Aaron Scales (Amy) of Lonoke, Alice Mairee Page of Beebe, Kaci Blanton (Elliot) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Kaitlyn Carpenter of Murray, Kentucky, Lindley Moore of Little Rock; four precious great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Scales, Emma Scales and Abigail Page; sister Donna Maugherman of Angola, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

His life was a life of giving to others whether it being a Boy Scout or Cub Scout leader, playing Santa Claus, helping feed football players, helping others change their lives and most of all of being a Daddy and a Papa. He was a Dad to all and he lived a life of example to provide a home where love will live forever. Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America or memorial of your own choice. Family will receive friends Monday, October 7, 2013 at Westbrook Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m., Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Beebe, with burial to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
