Billy Rex "Bill" Stiles, 70 of Mabelvale passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Little Rock. He was born on July 19, 1941 in Willow, Arkansas and was the son of George and Clara Stiles.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas Monticello and the University of Mississippi. Bill's greatest passion in life was teaching music. He was a band director for over forty-six years in the state of Arkansas for a host of different high schools. He also taught thirteen years at the University of Arkansas Phillips County where he served as the Dean of Music Night Division, and later retired from McClellan High School in Little Rock in 2011. Bill was mentored for over five years by Leonard Bernstein, and was honored by the State of Arkansas by receiving the Lifetime Teacher Award presented by Governor Mike Huckabee. In addition to teaching, writing, and composing music, he also was a past Mason, and member of the Shriners. He enjoyed flying, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Michael Jon Stiles, a brother Bobby Stiles and his parents.
Survivors include his children Roxane Ainsworth of Greenwood, Mississippi and William R. Stiles of West Helena; grandaughter Shonna Dickard,a companion Stephanie Dolphin, brothers James Stiles of Malvern and Steve Stiles of Oklahoma; sisters Barbara Hauge and Sandra Baker both of Malvern and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in West Helena at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012.
Visitation will be at Huson Funeral Home in Little Rock from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
