Beverly Best Remmel, artist, of Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2006. She was born February 10, 1917, in Wynne, Cross County, Arkansas, the oldest of four daughters of William Capers and Mary Ellen Hales Best. She graduated in 1935 from Ritenour High School in St. Louis County, Missouri. She attended Washington University School of Fine Arts and later was employed by Jules Pierlow, a well-known society photographer in St. Louis, where she did oil paintings for many celebrities. During World War II, she was employed at the Curtiss Wright Corporation working in the engineering department where they designed aircraft for the war. She married Augustus Caleb Remmel, Jr. and moved to Little Rock, continuing her art career painting portraits. Her paintings hang in many public buildings and private homes as testimony to her God-given talent in oil painting. She had a sweet, gentle personality and was a dedicated Christian all her life.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Rosalyn Remmel (Mrs. Richard) Morgan of Lawton, Iowa; grandson, Edward Dean (Joey) Miller; granddaughter, Melissa Miller Holt of Mesa, Arizona; great-granddaughter, Whitney Holt; three sisters, Jacquelyn Best Phillips of Washington, Missouri, Marceleen Best of Maumelle, and Evangelyn Best Sallee of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Gertrude Remmel Butler of Little Rock; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10 at Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Oakland Cemetery, by the Rev. John Andrew Fleming, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
