Betty Ruth Tatum Pounders, 81, of Little Rock, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2007. She was a devoted wife and mother, who delighted in her children and grandchildren, and who celebrated each moment of her life. She was a member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, where for 22 years she taught the Esthers Sunday School Class and the Tuesday Morning Bible Study, and was elected the Associational President of WMU. Betty was a lifelong resident of Little Rock, graduating at the age of 16 from Little Rock High School, and at the age of 20, from Ouachita Baptist University. She taught in the public schools of Springdale and Little Rock. She was one of the first volunteers for the Reach To Recovery Program, receiving the Theresa Laster Award from the American Cancer Society for her dedication. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, helping to establish the group at several new schools in the Little Rock School District.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, John H. Pounders, Jr.; son, Michael Pounders (Debbie) of Hot Springs; daughters, Robin Miller (Ken) of West Memphis and Joanie Skinner (James) of Newnan, Georgia; and five granddaughters, the joys of her heart, Jessica, Leslie and Katie Pounders, Adele Miller and Sarah Skinner. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Frank and Lois Cox Tatum.
Visitation will be this evening, Tuesday, October 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
