Betty "Lou" Ingram, 80, of Little Rock, died at Presbyterian Village, surrounded by her family on Monday, July 22, 2019. She was born in Little Rock on August 14, 1938 to A. Everette Eason and Augusta June Blalock Eason. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Monroe Ingram, and her daughter, Kimberly Dawn Ingram. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Jim Mark Ingram (Allison) of Little Rock and Clark Ingram (Tamara) of Malvern; sister, Martha Sue Davis of Bryant; grandchildren, Dr. Austin Ingram of Stuttgart, Alex, Andrew and Ashley Ingram of Little Rock; five step-grandchildren; two special nephews, Everette and Steve Davis of Bryant; and other extended family.
She was a lifelong follower of Jesus and a Baptist. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church Waldo, College View Baptist Church Magnolia, First Baptist Church Calico Rock, and Immanuel Baptist Church Little Rock. She grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas with a short stint in Monette and Delfore, Arkansas. In 1953, her family moved back to Little Rock and she became actively involved in The Order of Rainbow for Girls. She served as the Grand Worthy Advisor for Arkansas and then Supreme Chaplain for the United States. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1956. She went to college at Texas State College for Women (Texas Women's University), and then transferred to Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) where she met the love of her life, Monroe Ingram. They were married July 18, 1959. That fall, she began her first career as a high school coach's wife at Mabelvale, Waldo, and Camden.
In 1970, she moved with her family to Magnolia as Monroe began his college coaching career at Southern State College (SAU). In 1976, she completed her college degree at SAU. She decided to follow her passion for history and to start her second career as a high school history teacher in Emerson and then McNeil. She was much more than a teacher to her students. She was a friend, mentor, counselor, confidante, and even a surrogate mother to some of her students. She retired from teaching in 1997 so that she could start her third career as a grandmother.
She and Monroe moved to Calico Rock to help take care of Monroe's mother, and they soon made a new home there together where many days were spent with grandkids all around. While there, she became very involved with the Calico Rock Hospital Auxiliary. She was also appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to the advisory board for the North Central Unit of the Arkansas State Prison in Calico Rock. In 2011, she and Monroe moved to Little Rock to be closer to family and grandkids. She met many new friends while living at Presbyterian Village and enjoyed participating in Senior Olympics for several years. In the words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
Visitation will be Thursday, July 25 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Road). The funeral service will be Friday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Carter and Rev. Stacey Hammons. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Presbyterian Village and its excellent staff for their excellent care.
