Betty Hagerman

Betty Hagerman

Betty Sue Hagerman, 66, bravely lost her short battle with cancer on Saturday, June 26, 2021. She passed away at her home, surrounded by her children; she was a loyal mother, sister, grandmother, wife, aunt, mother-in-law and friend—her presence in our lives will be forever missed.

She was born in North Little Rock, and attended Oak Grove High School. Throughout her childhood and into her twenties, Betty worked at W. E. Smith Grocery (located in North Little Rock) which was owned by her grandfather.

Betty spent most of her life taking care of others. For many years, she helped her mother run a non-profit assisted living veterans’ home in North Little Rock. After her mother retired, Betty continued taking care of the veterans until she closed the business in 2014.

She loved the beauty of nature: you would often find her outside with her camera, taking pictures of insects, plants and trees. Betty was quite fond of butterflies, dragonflies and fairies. She loved hiking Petit Jean State Park just to see the beautiful landscape. She loved coconut cake, chocolate covered cherries, red potatoes, taco salads and a ham and cheese sandwich from Schlotzsky’s. Above all, Betty loved the people in her life.

Betty is survived by her children Anthony (Becca) Tally, Cristina (Jeremiah) Ivey, Katy Freeman, Angie Holmes, Tina Williams, Angela Brinkley, Melissa (Tim) Minchue; her husband of 30 years, Craig Hagerman; brothers Cleon “Val” Smith, Jr. and William “Eddie” (Misty) Smith; grandchildren Roshun Holmes, Tia Holmes, Mark Dismuke Jr., Kasi Holmes, Bionca Williams, Adam Williams, Keith Markham, Chris Mosely, Shanna Lovell, Beth Minchue, Tori Minchue, Phoebe Ivey, Lilly Ivey, Cid Ivey, Cecilia Ivey, Amelia Ivey, Kurt Ivey, Sascha Ivey; nieces Geneva (Ryan) Lewis, Ann (Cameron) Merritt, Brittney (Jimmy) Reed; nephews William “Trey” Smith III and Arthur “Buddy” Johnson; bonus children Jeremy Schock, Wesley McClatchy, Tara Robertson, Jacob Ivey, Amber Ivey and Bobby Bishara.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleon V. Smith, Sr. and Geneva Sue Harris; sister Mildred Smith-Johnson; son Vincent Tally; childhood best friend, Linda Poole-Schock; and her favorite granddog, Boone.
