Betty Byrl (Merideth) Gibbons, 83, of North Little Rock died on August 20, 2010. She was born on August 8, 1927 to Shelby and Lillian (Hill) Merideth at Route 3 Leachville, Arkansas and graduated from Monette High School in 1945, the same year she married the love of her life, Jimmy Gibbons. They were happily married for almost 37 years until his passing in December 1982. Their marriage bore two sons, Jim (in 1952) and the late Jonathon Wade (who was born and died in 1957). Betty was a world class mother.
Betty was a homemaker and co-partner (with her husband) in the now defunct J & B Motors. She was a longtime member of North Little Rock's Calvary Baptist Church, a volunteer and member of the Baptist Health Little Rock Auxiliary. Betty had a beautiful voice and was known for singing birthday greetings and "Silent Night" (in German). She made hot homemade soup for the sick and carried soft peppermints in her purse, which she distributed liberally. Betty was a 2nd mom to many of the young people who came through her home and was a much loved aunt to her nieces and nephews, who called her "Aunt B.B." or "Aunt Betty." She enjoyed being "Mimi" to her grandsons, Jimi and Gabe.
In addition to her parents, husband and infant son, she was preceded in death by her older sisters and their husbands, Glendene (Bud) Muse and Wanda (Ralph) Watson of North Little Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Clark and Grace Gibbons of Little Rock; sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and Eddie Crabtrey of Pasadena, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Chuck Heyer of Ypsilanti, Michigan and a dear nephew, Tony Townsend of Boynton Beach, Florida.
