Betty Jean (Hobbs) DeLeon, age 81 of Gravel Ridge, made her final journey to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2010. She was born on February 17, 1929 in Antlers, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ganil Geneva Hobbs of Roscoe, Texas; three sisters, and three brothers.
She worshipped and taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas. She is survived by her husband, USAF retired Msgt. Humberto M. DeLeon of Gravel Ridge; three daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Bruce Frederick of Little Rock, Tina Jean and Charlie Casse of Diamondhead, MS, and Penny Marie and Stacy Wallett of Arkansas City, KS; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Vikki DeLeon of Jacksonville, and Douglas M. DeLeon of Gravel Ridge; six grandchildren, Karla Ballard, Ryan DeLeon, Amy Thompson, Justin DeLeon, Blake DeLeon, and Austin Wallett; and two great-grandchildren, Layla and Anna Goss; four sisters, Hazel Dunlap of Colorado City, Texas, Jo Stautzenberger of Sweetwater, Texas, Katie Utley of Sweetwater, Texas, and Sally Herrington of Snyder, Texas; two ex-daughters-in-law, Kristy and Terry DeLeon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
She graduated from the Logistics Supply Support School at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, and was a Korean War veteran with the grade of Staff Sergeant, and was awarded the "Good Conduct Medal", National Defense Service medal, U.S. Korean service medal, and the "Cold War" Certificate of Recognition in promoting peace and stability which the people of this nation are forever grateful, and the "Korean War Service Medal" for faithful service during the Korean War, awarded to all Korean War veterans on the 50th Anniversary signed by Kim Dae-Jong, President of the Republic of Korea.
After her discharge, she became a loving and dedicated military housewife, raising her children while traveling and supporting her husband to various overseas and statewide assignments. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with worship service being held at 12:00 PM Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Interment will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
