Betty Baldwin Brock of North Little Rock passed away Friday, February 29, 2008. She was born Betty Catherine Baldwin on February 3, 1924 in Caddo Gap to the late M.H. and Myrtle Baldwin. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1944. She joined the U.S. Army Nurses Corp and was stationed at Camp Buckner, North Carolina, where she was proud to care for our troops returning home from the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, she worked as a nurse in Memphis, Tennessee and then later at the old and new Baptist Hospitals in Little Rock. She received her Liberal Arts Degree from UALR in 1982 at the age of 58. She then worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for 7 years before retiring. She was very active with the Republican Party and the Right to Life Foundation. She worked extensively on the campaigns of Congressman Ed Bethune and Lt. Governor- elect Mike Huckabee. She was an avid fan of Eddie Sutton and Lou Holtz. When she wasn?t watching C-Span, she enjoyed listening to Dr. Charles Stanley.
She attended Immanuel Baptist Church at 10th and Bishop Streets in Little Rock while the late, great Dr. W.O. Vaught was preaching. She loved to work in her yard up until her first stroke in 2002.
She leaves behind former husband, Ret. Federal Judge Kenneth R. Brock. Children include daughters, Federal Judge Nancy L. Brock of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Piper A. Brock of New York City, and son, Lance W. Brock of North Little Rock. She also had 4 grandchildren, Francis Hobbie of St. Petersburg, Florida, George Hobbie of Hattiesburg, and Haley and Gillian Brocksmith, both of New York City.
Surviving siblings include Jim Baldwin of El Dorado, Bill Baldwin of Benton, Deloise Shelton of North Little Rock, and Sid Baldwin of Glenwood.
She was preceded in death by her older brother Mack Baldwin of St. Louis, Missouri. She now goes to be with God and reunite with her long lost son Randall Kent Brock, who passed away in 1975.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Perry County Nursing Home for their unrivaled friendship and care. A special note of thanks must also go out to her special friend and private nurse Theresa Vogelpohl of Elder Care Decisions, Inc. of Perryville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Right to Life Foundation of Arkansas.
She will be sadly missed and always remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Funeral will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday at St. Luke?s Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
