Betty Zane Arivett, age 86, of Kirby, departed this life to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
She was born on June 12, 1935, in Kirby, the daughter of James C. “Dub” Orrick and Willie Parker Orrick. On October 25, 1953, she was married to Edwin Arivett. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
In her late 30’s, Betty Zane went back to school, ultimately achieving a master’s degree
in education. She graduated with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with high honors and made the Dean’s List every semester of her college years. She taught school for over twenty years before retiring to care for her aging mother. One of her surprising accomplishments was expert card shuffling and dealing. A Christian since the age of fourteen, she became a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in May of 1948. Betty Zane will be remembered and mourned by her many students, friends and church family.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Arivett; her son, Scott Arivett, both of Kirby, who rise up and call her blessed; two aunts, Pebble Waites and Virgie Arivett; and many cousins on the Parker side.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2022, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Herring and Bro. Ron Parker officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
