Betsy Holland

Betsy Jean Stefanowicz Holland, 63, of Benton, Arkansas, formerly of Harveys Lake and Shavertown, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly May 28, 2021 in her home of natural causes.  She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and was predeceased by her father, Adam Stefanowicz, and is survived by her mother, Bertha Kern Stefanowicz of Kingston, Pennsylvania.  She was also predeceased by husband Richard Holland.  In addition to her mother, Betsy is survived by her sister, Marianne Markunas and her brother-in-law, Richard Markunas, both of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania; close friend and confidant Chris Donohue of Little Rock, Arkansas; aunts:  Mary Louise and Maxine Stefanowicz; and many beloved cousins and friends.

Betsy graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School and later received a certificate in Hotel and Food Management from Stratford Career Center, St. Albans, Vermont.

Betsy began her career at Commonwealth Telephone Company, Dallas, Pennsylvania, and its successor Alltel Information Systems.  She was a whiz with machinery.  She operated and maintained the billing equipment and made sure that we all got our phone bills on time.  She performed quality and inventory controls, worked in the mailroom, and coordinated closely with the Post Office.

In 1996, Betsy transferred to the Alltel facility in Little Rock, Arkansas.  While in Little Rock, she later worked for Electronic Data Systems and Vestcom Retail Solutions.  For a time, Betsy and her husband lived in Las Vegas, Nevada.  While there, she worked at Bass Pro Shop.  She later returned to Benton, Arkansas to help care for members of her husband’s family.

Betsy’s passion was needlepoint.  Her quilts were spectacular and treasured, as were her tablecloths and all the other pieces she handcrafted.

A service to honor her life and memory will be held at the convenience of the family in Pennsylvania at a later date.  Anyone who wishes to make a contribution may donate to their local library, park, wildlife organization, or charity of your choice.

Betsy’s care has been entrusted to Smith-Benton Funeral Home, Benton, Arkansas.   Online guestbook:  www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
