Bennie "Susie" Duren, age 70, of Kirby, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014. She was born on April 10, 1944 at Pike City, the daughter of Buster Collins and Rosie York Collins. In August of 1961, she met the true love of her life, Melvin Duren, and on May 4, 1962, they were married and were blessed to have spent 52 wonderful years together. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Harold Lee Collins and Billy Ray Collins. She was a member of the Salem Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. She and Melvin enjoyed coaching girls' softball at Kirby for many years. She loved her family, loved her church and loved all of her softball girls. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Duren; three children and their spouses, Penny and Stacy Nutt, Angela and Todd Ray and Michael and Tracy Duren, all of Kirby; six grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Joanna Nutt, Brandy and Brad Porter, Jordan and Kayla Nutt, Jacob Ray, Jenna Ray and Josh and Karyn Lowery; two great-grandchildren, Colton Nutt and Olivia Grace Lowery; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 23, 2014, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Melvin Markham and Bro. Jack Herring officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM., at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Matthew Nutt, Jordan Nutt, Brad Porter, Jason Jackson, Danny Jackson and Jesse Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Ray and Ed Lawrence.
