Barry D Cook

May 25, 1960 – August 4, 2022

Barry D Cook – known to many as BDC - is now calling the Hogs from Heaven. Barry was born on May 25, 1960 in Brinkley to Melvin and Wilma Cook.

Barry loved his family and his life’s work. He served for 32 years with Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) – first as an EMT and then Communications Supervisor – retiring at the rank of Captain in 2019. In his own words, EMS was his life and he knew he was put here by God to serve. His dedication to his job resulted in several awards including Medic of the Year and Dispatcher of the Year, and he was a two-time recipient of the Pinnacle Award.

Barry also loved sports of all kinds, but the Arkansas Razorbacks were by far his greatest passion. Spending time at the beach in Gulf Shores was a close second place passion to “his Hogs”. His love for animals rounded out the things that were dearest to his heart.

Barry died August 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law – Larry Blackwell.

He is survived by his: Stepmother: Kathy Cook; sisters: Cheryl Blackwell and Lynette (Mark) Herbst; niece Jennifer (Jonathan) Short; his great-nephew Jackson Short; aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family is not defined solely by shared DNA, and Barry leaves a number of friends who were loved by him and loved him like family. He also leaves his dogs – Sampson, Beauzier, and Delco – who already miss him greatly.
