Barbara Jane Shaw passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 17, 2024, at the age of 84. Barbara was born on July 8, 1940, in Anthony, New Jersey, to Orin Wilson Shaw and Lylian Agusta Wittman Shaw. Barbara was a woman of great character and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of those around her. Barbara’s journey began in a small quiet town in New Jersey where she attended high school and found her way back home to Arkansas to be closer with her family and countless friends. Her love for Jesus and faith fueled her immense compassion for her family. Like her mother, Lylian, she loved her grandchildren and reminded them often how proud she was of each one.
Barbara’s life was a testament to the power of love and commitment to her family including her son, Wayne Harrison and her daughter, Dawn Williams. Barbara lived with her daughter in Beebe, Arkansas, who cared for her every day until her passing. She was always grateful for her daughter’s commitment to her well-being.
Barbara’s legacy continues through her six cherished grandchildren, Jessica (Curtis) Sutton, Joseph Williams, Andrew (Jessie) Williams, Brandi (Austin) Robinson, Brodrick Harrison and Nikki Sykes. Barbara also had five great-grandchildren which she loved and adored, Ella and Harper Sutton, Blake and Brynn Williams, and Augustine Robinson. Barbara was the eldest sister of 7 siblings, Bruce (Connie) Shaw, Patricia (Ronald) Shultz, Wanda (George) Mattis, Orin (Judy) Shaw Jr., Linda (Ronald) Vealey, Debbie (Rick) Stripling, and Florence (Terry) Novacek.
Barbara’s love for music was unmistakable. She found great joy in listening to country music and playing guitar in a band with some of her closest friends and family. She also loved all animals, traveling, cruising, and attending family gatherings. She found great excitement in family reunions and emphasized the importance of keeping connections with loved ones.
Those who knew Barbara would describe her as strong, caring, and loyal. She was a devoted member of McRae United Methodist Church where her spirit and dedication was felt by all. Barbara’s life reflected her values, and she lived each day with a heart full of gratitude and kindness.
Barbara’s departure is deeply felt by her family, who are comforted by the indelible mark she left on their hearts and lives. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her daughter, her grandchildren, her siblings, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Barbara Shaw was a beacon of light and love, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate a life marked by compassion and unwavering devotion to family and her community. Barbara will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever remain a part of the lives she touched.
