Aubrey Lee Harris IV, 43, of Little Rock passed away February 14, 2022. He was born October 28, 1978, in Little Rock to Nell Brandon Harris and Aubrey “Al” Lee Harris III. In addition to his parents, Aubrey is survived by his beloved son, Aubrey “Lee” Harris V, brother, Gibson Brandon Harris, and niece Lily Harris. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Alice and Hiram F. Brandon Jr. of Searcy and Marilyn and Aubrey “Sonny” Lee Harris Jr. of Forrest City; Uncles Ben Harris and Johnny Harris. Other survivors include aunts and uncles: Joanne and Mike McLendon, Charlotte and Larry Mizell, Hiram F. Brandon III, Joe and Becky Harris, and Sue Harris; cousins, Stewart McLendon, Erin Skrodenis, Larry Mizell II, Heather Sizemore, Will Harris, Marie Mathes, Joni Harris, and Elizabeth Patton.
Aubrey was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School and University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He loved outdoor activities. At an early age he demonstrated far-reaching mobility as he and Gibson rode bikes (with or without Nell’s permission) all over west LR. Through his dad and his grandfather Harris, Aubrey was introduced to hunting at East Lake near Holly Grove and Hardin Point Hunting Club, whether it was duck or deer hunting. This became a fun family affair as Al, Uncle Johnny, Uncle Joe, Cousin Will and--in recent years--his son Lee would pursue the thrills of many memorable hunts. Riding the ATV with Lee was special! Teaching Lee how to shoot carried on the Harris family hunting tradition. Scouting became central in Aubrey’s life. Through strong leaders of Troop 227 at Calvary Baptist Church, Aubrey participated in landmark adventures: a backpacking trip at the Wind River Range in WY at age 11, Philmont Scout Ranch in 1993, and, with Gibson, the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA, in 1993. Continuing the Harris family tradition, Aubrey is an Eagle Scout. He loved dogs. We know, at his passing, Aubrey met his beloved lab Duke at the Rainbow Bridge. Other activities included playing soccer in high school and later viewing Manchester United soccer matches on TV. Aubrey and Al never missed Lee’s basketball games. At home, Aubrey enthusiastically watched Lee play basketball with Cache, Al, and Nell’s yellow lab! In the driveway Cache would challenge Lee to keep the basketball away from the quick dog! A voracious reader, Aubrey was a student of history. He concentrated on WWII books and maintained a large inventory of history (as in WWII) books. At the Harris household on Monday nights, Lee and his cousin Lily joined Al, Nell, Gibson, and Aubrey for family night suppers and spirited board games. Nell always prepared delicious meals and desserts for the gang. Following the suppers were very competitive board games. Aubrey liked to win and “strategized” TO win! Family meant everything to Aubrey. He was so proud of Lee. His involvement with Lee’s activities was heartfelt. Whether it was Monday suppers or the big family get-togethers at 4th of July parties in Forrest City, Thanksgiving lunches in Searcy, or weekends with cousins at East Lake, Aubrey was surrounded by the love of his family. Aubrey, Gibson, and their cousins shared lots of fun and mischief! The “brotherly actions” of Aubrey and Gibson were over the top! An anecdote by Cousin Stewart: in July 1999 Cousin Stewart asked Aubrey if he was “up for an adventure” to attend a Phish concert in Nashville. Aubrey replied he was “game!” They drove six hours to Nashville, experienced the concert, spent the night with a Ch. 7 friend, and booked it back to LR. An anecdote “channeled through” Grandpa B: Aubrey and Grandpa B were riding in a boat when somehow Aubrey’s sunglasses fell overboard near the shore of a lake. Aghast at finding out the sunglasses cost $80 (!), Grandpa B persuaded a diver friend the next day to retrieve Aubrey’s lost sunglasses. Aubrey is loved. He will be missed.
May the sun bring you new energy by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night,
May the rain wash away your worries,
May the breeze blow new strength into your being,
May you walk gently through the world and
Know its beauty all the days of your life.
