Dr. Arthur Hoyt, Jr., of Mountain Home, formerly of Wooster, lost his battle with cancer on October 16, 2023. It was not how he would have chosen to make his departure, and he fought valiantly up until the very end.
Arthur was a former Biochemistry professor at the University of Central Arkansas, and he was known to have strong opinions on just about everything and was never short of words. If he had something to say, it was typically said with the filter turned off. It was who he was and who he had always been.
Arthur had outlived most everyone in his family, leaving only his two sons, Arthur Hoyt III (Pamela) of Gainesville, Missouri, and Aaron Hoyt (Leslie) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Also in his circle were his grandchildren, Trevor Hoyt of Greenbrier, Arkansas, Taarna (Madison) Hoyt of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Bradley Parker of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as a great-grandson, Mason Parker of Sherwood, Arkansas. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur, Sr., and Valree Hoyt of Conway, Arkansas, as well as his sister, Paulette Alberson of Conway. He also had his best friend of the last 10 years, Judy Mills of Mountain Home, Arkansas, as well as his longtime friend and colleague, Mike Rapp of Jackson, Tennessee. His small circle of friends and family was one of his biggest assets.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you instead make a donation to your local animal shelter or humane society. Arthur was a huge animal advocate, and typically preferred the company of an animal over the company of a person. Animal Recovery Mission, Good Shepherd Humane Society (Eureka Springs) and the Humane Society of Pulaski County (Little Rock) are some of his favorite animal charities.
There will be a short ceremony at the Crestlawn Memorial Park pavilion in Conway, Arkansas, on November 11, 2023, at 2:00pm. We ask those who knew Arthur as former students, friends, or family to bring a story or anecdote to memorialize Arthur.
