Arthur Paul Gruner of Searcy died on December 14, 2008 of natural causes; he was 85 years old. He was born in 1923 in Detroit, Michigan. After college he went to work as a machinist for Hughes Tools. During World War II Art continued work as a machinist, but later enlisted in the Merchant Marines. After the war he sold railroad equipment for Evans Products Company. In 1950 he married Joyce Cloyd moving to Philadelphia, where his son Arthur was born. In 1979 he took an early retirement and bought a trailer park in McRae, Arkansas. Joyce died in 2006. Art volunteered at the Central Arkansas General Hospital and was active in the Heber Springs Humane Society. He was interested in the stock market, raising cattle, music and computers. He is survived by his son Arthur Paul Gruner Jr, of Annapolis, MD, his daughter-in-law Tracy Gill, one grandson and many good friends in Searcy and Heber Springs.
