Arlis Owens, 98, of North Little Rock, passed away October 9, 2020. He was born in El Paso, Arkansas on October 2, 1922 to Luther Martin and Arizona “Arie” (Byrd) Owens.
He was a member of Levy Church of Christ for nearly 70 years where he served as a deacon and official greeter. He was a charmer. You were drawn to his smile and welcoming spirit. He would meet the ladies at the door with big hugs and the men with a strong handshake.
Arlis enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII, participating in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a recipient of four Bronze Stars and proudly shared lots of stories of his military days.
Arlis is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Corene Blasingame Owens, and special friend Dorothy Crosland. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
We want to express our appreciation to the members of Levy Church for their love and dedication to him when his health started to decline. We were so grateful he had close neighbors and church staff that checked in on him. A special thanks to Bob and Peggy McKechnie for constant care taking him to all his doctor’s appointments and nursing him back to health after his many stumbles.
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the nurses on the Covid floor at Baptist North for their kind and compassionate care for him. And, thank you staff of Lakewood Health and Rehab for making his last months full of fun and laughter.
Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM followed by funeral at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 12, 2020 at Levy Church of Christ . He will be laid to rest with military honors, beside his late wife, in Blasingame Cemetery, El Paso, Arkansas with military honors. Service will be officiated by Mr. Leon Barnes and Mr. Garry Neal.
