Archie A. Crain, of Sheridan, died at home Thursday, May 24, 2007. He was born the son of William Sturgeon Crain and Ethel Mae Hardy Crain on December 22, 1919.
A native of Magnolia, Arkansas, Mr. Crain was a gospel quartet singer with the Hardy Boys until he enlisted in the Army during World War II where he served in the European theater of operations with honor and distinction. After returning from the war, he found work in the automotive industry. He was employed at Levon Buick, Tolliver?s Garage, Rebsamen Ford, and Bevis Dodge. He then changed his career to education and taught at Metropolitan High School, the Little Rock Skill Center, and Pulaski Vocational Technical School before retiring. He was an avid gardener his entire life and often bragged on his 400+ tomato plants. He also loved to spoil his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces and nephews and friends.
Mr. Crain is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Maggie Coulter Crain; his sisters, Mrs. Audie Arrington and Mrs. Opal Bane; and his brother, Mr. Joe Crain. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Lisa Chang of North Little Rock and her husband, Dr. Jimmy Chang; daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Haynes of Sheridan and her husband, Mr. Rodger Haynes; and son, Mr. Michael Crain of Yellville and his wife, Mrs. Donna Crain; granddaughters, Amanda Haynes and Megan Chang; grandsons, Anthony Chang, Jonathan Chang, Marcus Haynes, Chris Haynes, Justin Crain and Mike Crain; great-grandchildren, Tristan Gibson, Zachery Abaza, Alyssa Haynes, Haley Haynes, Coulter Crain and Conner Crain.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery officiated by Rev. Wendell Dorman.
