Anna P. “Nancy” Tomosieski, 86, entered her eternal rest the 13th February 2024, peacefully at her home in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Nancy and her twin brother, Richard, were born Christmas Day 1937 in Newark, New Jersey and she became a resident of North Little Rock in 1980. She grew up in Harrison, New Jersey with her mother and siblings after the early death of her father. Nancy loved being a registered nurse and worked at local medical establishments both New Jersey and Arkansas. She also served as Head Nurse at the Easter Seals Society of Arkansas before her retirement.
Nancy met John Tomosieski Jr. through John’s cousin Joanie, who was Nancy’s classmate in Nursing school. Nancy and John were married 49 and a half years before his death in 2010. They had four children, eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Some of Nancy’s fondest memories included traveling with her family. On one of her two trips to Rome, she was elated to meet Pope Francis in 2016, where she was honored to receive his blessings and share a brief conversation.
Nancy was a proud member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and she was an active volunteer with Arkansas Hospice. She was a faithful attendee at the Immaculate Conception Church in North Little Rock, where she also participated in regular prayers in the Adoration Chapel. When she was ready for joy, she joined her Red Hatter ladies for fun.
She was preceded in death by her father (T. Harold Barton), mother (Annie Barton), three brothers (Richard, Gerald, John), husband (John Tomosieski Jr.), and son (John Tomosieski III).
Nancy is survived by her sister Mary Rice (Pete), sister-in-law Yvette Barton, her three daughters Joann (David Peters), Diane (Dennis Smith), and Kathy (Wayne Jones).
One of Nancy’s greatest joys was being “Gran” to Kate (Buster Ogbuagu), Christina (John Gantt), Ashley (Ben Bryant), Courtney (Stephen Owen), Shilo (TJ Carr), Rebekah Barton (Daniel Quock), Stephen Smith, Jennifer (Dylan O’Dell), Kayla Tomosieski, Misty (Dylan Schwarz), and Olivia Tomosieski.
Nancy had a knack for knitting—every winter her nieces, nephews, kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were adorned with her handmade “stand up” mittens.
She was “Great Gran” to Zoey, Brighton, Madison, Cameron, Duncan, Randi, Molly, Maggie, Ellis, Ethan, Brooke, Freya, Anya, Loker, and Baby O’Dell.
Her visitation will be held Sunday, February 18 at Smith Funeral Home in North Little Rock from 2-4 pm. The visitation will be followed by an Arkansas Nurses Honor Guard and Rosary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Church, 7000 John F Kennedy Blvd, on Monday February 19 at 2pm. She will be buried with her husband John in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery March 1 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations made in Nancy’s honor to Arkansas Hospice or the Easter Seals Society of Arkansas.
