Alvin Jackson Reap, 95, of Little Rock, died on February 13, 2010, the 64th anniversary of his marriage to Marjorie Clancy Reap who survives him. He was born August 23, 1914 in Little Rock to Lola Reaves Reap and Alvin James Reap. He was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters, Alice Reap Martin and Elizabeth Reap and brother, John Tillman Reap. Alvin is also survived by his daughter, Rebecca Ann Reap of Little Rock; son, John Clancy Reap, his wife, Charmian and their two children, Jackson W. Reap and Elizabeth Reap Bohannon, all of Dallas and Elizabeth's husband, Jason and their daughter, Charlotte Grace, Alvin's great-granddaughter; and his sister-in-law, Priscilla Carr of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Alvin was a lifelong Little Rock resident and a 44 year employee of Worthen Bank and Trust Co. He retired from Worthen in 1979 as Vice-President and Manager of the Commercial Real Estate Loan Department. He literally worked his way up through the bank, starting in the transit/bookkeeping areas. He was honored to be part of Worthen and helped make it into the largest and most powerful bank in Arkansas for many years.
He was a graduate of Little Rock High School (now, Little Rock Central High School), Little Rock Junior College and Arkansas Law School (now, UALR Law School), American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the American Bankers Association National Mortgage School. Alvin was a long-time devoted Lions Club member, having served primarily in the West Little Rock Lions Club as president and in other key positions. He was a past president of the internationally recognized Lions World Services for the Blind (formerly, Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind). He had a special interest and passion for the blind.
Alvin was a member of Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 694, F. & A.M., Little Rock Scottish Rite Consistory and a 32nd degree Mason. He was an enthusiastic golfer. He began playing as a youngster and played his last round at age 88. Alvin was a veteran of World War II, having served as an enlisted man in the U.S. Army in the Finance Corps, with the bulk of his service time spent in the Aleutian Islands.
A service to remember Alvin will be Tuesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Lynn Lindsey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Foundation, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, AR 72205 or the Lions World Services for the Blind, 2811 Fair Park Blvd., Little Rock, AR 72204.
