Alvia Gene McDougal

Alvia Gene McDougal, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at 10:40 p.m., surrounded by the love of his family. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Gene was born on March 26, 1936, in Roosevelt, Arkansas. In 1957, he married his soulmate, Sudie McDougal, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 67 years. Their enduring love and commitment were an inspiration to everyone blessed to witness it.

A devout Christian, Gene's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He lived with grace and kindness, exemplifying the teachings of Christ in every interaction. His words and actions were a source of encouragement and strength for all who knew him.

Gene was a man of many qualities-kind, generous, and fiercely loyal. Known for his quick wit, sage advice, and the unwavering support he offered to his loved ones, he also had a youthful spirit that made him a joy to be around. Gene was truly a big kid at heart and found immense happiness in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, playing games, or simply enjoying their company, these moments were among his most cherished.

Gene loved the outdoors and spent countless happy hours hunting and fishing. These passions connected him deeply with nature and allowed him to create lasting memories with his family and friends.

In addition to his love for his family and faith, Gene worked in upholstery for over 60 years. He was a master of his craft and generously shared his knowledge by teaching upholstery classes through the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension. His dedication to his work and his ability to teach and inspire others left a lasting impact on many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sudie McDougal; his son, Ronnie McDougal, and daughter-in-law, Ann McDougal; his granddaughter, Brooke Perkins, her husband, Phil Perkins, and their children, Kaitlyn, Allen, Belle, and Kyle; his grandson, Bradley McDougal, his wife, Dee Ann McDougal, and their daughter, Emma McDougal. He is also survived by his brother, Jack McDougal; his sister, Clista Mashburn; and many extended family members and friends who held him dear. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, whose memories and shared history remained close to his heart throughout his life.
