She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hankins, sons, Ronnie Hankins and Thomas Clayton Hankins, brothers, Junior, Chester and Jim Buck Pickard and sister, Edna Petitt.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Hankins and his wife Susan; daughters, Alice Porter and her husband, Joe, Tunnie Brown and her husband Donald, Carla Smith and her husband, Rob and Lisa Malott; grandchildren, Mark Woodall, Keri Moye, Tina Hankins, Teri Wilfong, Stephanie Hankins, Joey Rice, Alisa Gaddy, Beth King, Vanessa Malott, Lauren Malott, Amanda Hankins, Heather Smith and Shelby Goettl; brother, Billy Pickard; and sisters, Mary Dycus and Carolyn Elkins.

Dean was a member of the Perry Street Baptist Church for over thirty-five years. Her goal in life was to serve the Lord. She led her children and grandchildren to Christ. She loved to cook Sunday dinner for her family, extended family and friends. However, she required that we attend church prior to eating. Dean worked hard all of her life. She raised her six children alone after her husband passed away. She worked numerous jobs, sometimes two jobs to make ends meet. Her last job prior to retiring was house mother at the Florence Crittenden Home for unwed mothers. She helped many young women grow up with the skills they needed to be better mothers.
