Alphonse D. Jendrejas

Alphonse D. Jendrejas, 94, of Marche passed away on Sunday, January 29th at the Lakes of Maumelle.
He was born to John and Elizabeth Jendrejas on July 28, 1928 in the same house on the family farm where he lived until just recently.

Alphonse was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Susan Koscielny Glover. His survivors include his wife, Suzanne, nieces Betty Hunt, Carolyn (Pat) Bettinger, nephews Albert (Diane) Koscielny, and Patrick (Carolyn) Bettinger.
He was a former postal worker, and had his own lawn care business for many years, eventually giving up the business when he was 90 years old. A favorite place of his was in the seat of one of his tractors. Alphonse loved cutting grass on the old home place, more relaxation for him than a chore.

He was also a highly talented carpenter who built a three bedroom brick home by himself without the use of electricity. He used handsaws for the wooden parts, plus hoes and a wheelbarrow to mix the cement for the foundation and the brickwork. He was often the first in line to offer help to a friend or neighbor in need.

Alphonse was a lifetime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Marche. He was a Eucharist Minister, usher, and door man to generations of school children as he held the door to church open for them on a regular basis. He took great pride in the appearance of the trees and shrubs around the church property, especially since he had planted and nurtured so many of them. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

His funeral will be Monday, February 6th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church beginning with visitation at 10:00 am, followed by the Rosary at 10:30 am, and the Mass at 11:00 o'clock. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nurses from Arkansas Hospice and the staff at The Lakes at Maumelle for their love and kindnesses extended to Alphonse.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Hope Ministries Alliance food pantry, PO Box 13176, Maumelle, AR 72113, or to IHM Catholic Church, 7006 Jasna Gora Drive, NLR 72118.
