Alice Dudley Peters died April 10, 2007. The widow of John L. Peters, she was born to the late Edward Saylor and Helen Faust Dudley on March 19, 1916. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Ralph E. Kyte and Frank C. Kyte, and a foster daughter, Jennie Clare McSwain. She was retired from the Pulaski County Assessor's Office.
A graduate of Helena High School, Mrs. Peters attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) and Little Rock Junior College. She spent most of World War II at the Japanese Relocation Center at Rowher where her husband was on staff. She was a lifetime member of the PTA and served as president of the Rightsell Elementary PTA and the East Side Junior High PTA. During the 1950's, she wrote a weekly column for the Arkansas Gazette on behalf of the Little Rock PTA Council. For ten years she wrote and directed the Rightsell Dads' Club Revue. She was a former member of the Pulaski County Democratic Central Committee. An avid reader, she had been a member of the Order of Bookfellows.
Mrs. Peters was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Stewards. She was made an honorary lifetime steward in 2002. She also served as president of the Bethell Sunday School Class for 13 years and as choirmother of the Junior Choir for 17 years. However, she most treasured the 24 years she spent as director of "The Pageant of the Holy Nativity," an elaborate production originally staged at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York.
Mrs. Peters is survived by a daughter, Barbara B. Peters of Little Rock; two cousins, George Watson of Kansas City, Missouri and David Dudley of Dublin, Ohio; three nieces, Carol Kyte Clay of Elaine, Marilyn Ragan of Plano, Texas and Audrey Ann Atherton of Hot Springs; a nephew, Ralph E.
