Alice M. Hicks, 91, of North Little Rock went to be with her heavenly father on March 2, 2015. She was born on August 18, 1923 to William Merkel and Elizabeth Mitchell Merkel in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
She was a member of All Souls Church in Scott, Arkansas where she taught Sunday School, was a vacation bible school leader, served on the church board for several years, and was a church trustee.
Alice started her professional career as a Southwestern Bell Payroll Supervisor in 1950 and stayed there 17 years. In 1967, she joined General Properties, Inc. and remained there for 48 years until her passing. She was involved in numerous professional and business organizations where she held various leadership positions, and was a dedicated member of North Little Rock Athletic Club.
Alice's greatest joy in life was her family as evidenced by her Thursday night dinners, Christmas Eve tradition, and numerous other family gatherings. She is survived by her daughter, Dee Carraro and husband, Butch; son, Chuck Hicks and wife, Sara; grandchildren, Kelli Wigginton (Cheddy), Courtney Bowie (Chad), Brad Hicks, and Amy Finks (Judd); great grandsons, Alex and Kellan Wigginton, Cortland Bowie, and expectant great grandson, Lenin Finks, great-granddaughter, Celeste James; sisters, Billie Thomas and Alberta Dawes, all of North Little Rock. She was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Gene Marshall; brother, Frank Merkel and brothers-in-law, Jeep Thomas and Charlie Dawes.

Alice lived her life with determination, grace and dignity, and she left this earth exactly the same way. Her light will truly be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015 at Smith - North Little Rock Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
