Alice Giles

Alice Giles, 80, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away August 10, 2021. She was born May 4th, 1941 in Glasgow Scotland to Joseph and Alice (Casey) McCormack.

Alice immigrated to America in 1962 and lived in Oakland, California for 36 years before retiring from Mervyn’s and moving to Grass Valley, California. She and her husband, Dee, embraced their retirement years to the fullest. Alice enjoyed thrift shopping, flea markets and frequenting her favorite restaurants. Her favorite way to spend her time though, was with family and friends. She took great pride in her children, Sheila and Ian, and instilled strong family values, which they carry on today. When she received the title “Grandma Dee”, she embraced it wholly, and was soon affectionately known as Grandma Dee to many, not just her own grandchildren. She spent the last few years of her life living in North Little Rock, Arkansas with her family.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Giles; her parents, Joseph and Alice McCormack; two brothers, Charles and Joseph McCormack; her brother-in-law, Joe McKell, and sister-in-law, Kathleen McCormack; her mother-in-law, Ione Giles, her ex-husband, Houston Stewart, and her best friend, Rena Roderick; and Renas son, George O’Brien.

She is survived by her children, Sheila (James) Anderson of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Ian (Tina) Stewart of Harrison, Arkansas; her sister, May McKell of Helensburgh Scotland; her grandchildren, Sierra Anderson, of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Chase Anderson of San Diego, California; her step-children, Kim Serrano and Johnnie Giles; her extended family, David (Terrie) O’Brien of Meadow Vista, California, Jennifer (Tony) Aburto of Toledo, Washington and Micheal O’Brien of Auburn, California; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks any donations to be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital .
