Alice Edna Marshall Duke, 96, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Edna was born March 4, 1920 in Sparkman, Clark County, Arkansas. She was predeceased in death by her parents, James Quinton Marshall and Winnie Jane Hatcher Marshall, her husband, John Duke and four siblings, J.Q. and Frank Marshall, Bertha Lee Vaden and Anna Mae Winters.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Jane Faulkner-Griffin (Fred) of Little Rock and Joyce Ann Andrews (Lynn) of Wynne; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Bonnet; four grandchildren, Paul Faulkner, Angie Moore, Kelli Schrang (Scott) and Alice Ann Holmes (Ben), five great-grandchildren, Matthew Moore, Michael and Madelyn Schrang, Lilly, Lucy and Judah Holmes and one 9 month old great-great grandson, Tripp Schrang; her nephews, Norman Vaden and James Winters and niece, Diane Vaden Brachen and special friends, Arlene and Warren Bones of Gurdon, AR and other family and friends.
She retired as a sales associate from JC Penney, was active in the Pulaski Heights AARP Chapter, the Merrymakers and WMU at Calvary Baptist Church.
Edna was a resident of Salem Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Conway, AR during the final years of her life. Salem Place staff called her Alice and she liked her new name and told friends that visited, that Edna was now her alias. She appreciated the care and comradery of the staff during her stay and enjoyed being told how beautiful she was. With assistance from the staff, she would join by telephone the Calvary Baptist Church Sunday morning outreach service led by her pastor, Dr. Ed Simpson, enabling worship with her church family.
Visitation will be Friday, December 30 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Delamar Cemetery in Manning, Arkansas.
The family request memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR.
