Mrs. Alice Charlotte Gibson Brandon, age 86, of Searcy, Arkansas, died Sunday, November 9, 2008. Mrs. Brandon was born March 5, 1922, at home in Hope, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Giles Henry Gibson and Nellie Mason Hoge Gibson. She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and earned a BA in French from the University of
Arkansas. Mrs. Brandon married Hiram Francis Brandon Jr. in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1999. Also preceding her in death were her brothers: Giles Albert Gibson and Orrin Lovewell Gibson. She is survived by a sister Mrs. Shirley Gibson Hulse of The Sea Ranch, California. Mrs. Brandon is also survived by four children: Joanne Brandon McLendon and husband Michael of Little Rock; Charlotte Brandon Mizell and husband Larry of Van Buren; Hiram Francis Brandon III of Fayetteville; and Nell Brandon Harris and husband Al of Little Rock and six grandchildren: Stewart Gregory McLendon and wife Shannon; Erin McLendon Skrodenis and husband Brent; Larry James Mizell II and wife Monti; Heather Marie Mizell McClure and husband Darrell; Aubrey Lee Harris IV and wife Andrea; and Gibson Brandon Harris and six great-grandchildren: Dylan Gregory McLendon and Morgan Olivia McLendon; Grant Alexander Mizell and Ian James Clark Mizell; Lily Anna Blue Harris; and Emma Claire Skrodenis.
Mrs. Brandon worked as a secretary before her four children were born. She was a housewife, a Girl Scout volunteer, an assistant in her husband?s frame shop, and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Searcy. Mrs. Brandon was an avid bridge player; loved her yard and flowers; went to the beauty shop every week; ate at her supper club monthly; and shared many birthday parties with the ?rowdy bunch? in Searcy. She checked out the stock market daily; worked the cryptoquote daily and the crossword puzzle; on Friday nights she watched her shows on AETN. She enjoyed many friends in Fayetteville while dining at Uncle Gaylord?s, her son Hiram?s restaurant. Her children regularly checked in to tell her ?what?s going on? with their jobs, their lives and those precious grandchildren and the greats! Mrs. Brandon provided opportunities, encouragement and lots of advice to her grandchildren. A news junkie, she voted Democratic and often canceled her husband?s vote! As glaucoma took her eyesight, Mrs. Brandon remained independent for a long time with the help of many loving friends, neighbors, friends at the beauty shops both in Searcy and in Little Rock, and the daily stop of the mailman. The Murray Sunday School Class held a special place in her heart. The family greatly appreciates Hospice Home Care, Little Rock, for their loving care and compassion.
